A perfect morning in old town Antibes. Here is our favourite way to spend a September when the sun loses its sticky summer intensity.
Wake up at Parc du Cap
Start the day with a morning coffee on your terrace or a refreshing swim in your private pool. When you are ready, take a leisurely stroll along the coast into old town Antibes. Notice the contrast between the art deco inspired elegance of Juans-les-Pins and the ancient Greek influences that still define Antibes.
Pay a visit to ‘Millionaire’s Quay’
When you reach Port Vauban, head to the IYCA (International Yacht Club of Antibes) Quay for some truly spectacular views. The IYCA is a favourite meeting point for the world’s finest superyachts and megayachts, including those of Roman Abramovich, the Saudi princes and Paul Allen, and welcomes visitors on foot. The grandeur of these gleaming yachts, with their on-deck swimming pools and helicopters, is sure to take your breath away.
Pick up a picnic lunch
You’ll find everything you need for a perfect picnic at the Provencal market in Cours Masséna. Arrive before 1pm to buy your cheese from Jacques, your Corsican charcuterie from Tony, your market garden vegetables from Marina and Marielle and your cut flowers from Dominique.
Wander through Antibes
The little streets behind the market are lined with traditional houses boasting colourful floral displays. Perhaps there is even some friendly rivalry between neighbours! If you’d prefer a sea view, head to the ramparts on the Promenade Amiral de Grasse.
Visit La Garoupe Sanctuary chapel
La Garoupe Sanctuary chapel, tiny though it is, brims full of memories of those lost at sea. The beautifully crafted ships and models that can be found inside are worth the trip up the hill.
Tuck into some lunch
The Phare de la Garoupe is one of the most powerful lighthouses on the coast, with a beacon reaching 52 kilometres out to sea. The nearby stone benches make a wonderful spot to tuck into some lunch and contemplate the spectacular mountainous views beyond the coast as the afternoon draws in.
