We recently had the pleasure of working with London interior design studio, th2designs, to style one of our exquisite penthouses. It was no small task, given the generous space both inside and out! Each penthouse comes with a private infinity pool on the spacious roof terraces – which offer great opportunities for individual styling. In this penthouse, for example, th2 focused on creating zones of enjoyment, depending on the position of the Riviera sun at various times of the day. And, of course, the design made the most of the spectacular panoramic sea and mountain views, across the Côte d’Azur.

As summer approaches and poolside living beckons, we chat with Gail Taylor, Managing Director at th2designs. Gail shares her valuable insights on trends and tips for furnishing your poolside penthouse at Parc du Cap – and beyond.

Fashionable fabrics

When it comes to material choices to decorate poolsides, there are some fantastic outdoor fabrics on the market these days. Once an afterthought, outdoor fabrics now come in a huge variety of colours, textures and patterns. Certainly, we were spoilt for choice at Parc du Cap! Modern fabrics are incredibly durable and hard-wearing so they can be left outside whatever the weather. In fact, they now look so good, we often find ourselves specifying these elegant outdoor fabrics for indoor pieces. So, my top tip is to select fabrics that are designed for the outside, then deciding your poolside colour scheme.

Colour vs. no colour

Poolsides are a great spot to add bold splashes of colour to your outdoor areas. So go for it! Whilst nautical navy always looks smart and elegant, there is a vast colour palette to indulge in. At the Parc du Cap penthouse, we introduced a shade of cerise (cherry red). This looks fantastic against the Mediterranean backdrop. However, if you prefer alternative colours, why not go for the safer neutrals on the main cushions. This option will allow for highlights of colour to enhance the area through the use of poolside towels. These always look great rolled and left waiting on loungers for your use.

Spacious outdoor living

The penthouse poolsides at Parc du Cap offer extensive areas to furnish around the pool. Therefore, there is a wonderful opportunity to “zone” different areas in unique styles. As a result, you’ll have plenty of options for sitting as a group or finding a quiet spot to sunbathe privately. I recommend using planting such as troughs of lavender or pots with olive trees to define and separate different spaces.

In addition, to make the best use of outdoor living space, consider the necessities for outside living. Whilst entertaining guests around the pool, you will want to have everything within easy reach. At Parc du Cap we used multi-functional furniture such as a coffee table that doubles up as an ice box. So, when you desire a chilled rosé by the pool, you can be assured it is available and close by!

Caring for your fabulous furniture

When it comes to storage of mattresses and cushions for outside loungers and chairs, I have a solution! Most modern outdoor fabrics can be left out during all-weather but come the winter, I’d get them tucked away. With plenty of space to work with at Parc du Cap, we brought in some large woven chests for storage. Whilst securely housing the cushions, they also look great in their own right. So, when the balmy summers return, your fresh and beautiful poolside furnishings can be brought out for another year’s enjoyment. Just ensure you check the measurement of your cushions with the internal dimensions of the storage boxes, before ordering. For more information on th2designs, visit: https://www.th2designs.co.uk/.
